Three Little Self Care Tips for 2023

Ok, let’s face it. The last two years have been tough- and it doesn’t seem as though this pandemic is going anywhere any time soon. Lots of us are back to spending more time at home again, with cancelled plans and get togethers on the back burner for a while. And that’s ok. We got through 2020 and 2021, we got through 2022, we’ll get through this. But while we’re getting through it all, we just wanted to remind you to take a little extra care of yourself. Here are three little self care tips for 2023. Let us know in the comments if you have any to add.

Prioritise yourself

You might think this tip is a little selfish, but believe us- self care has never been more important than it is right now. If you don’t take good care of yourself, then how can you take good care of anyone else? We all have a responsibility to recognise our own self worth and our importance in this world- so why not start today?

Don’t put everyone else’s needs above your own. For a change, focus on your own needs so that you can be the best version of yourself. Only then can you tend to the needs of those who rely on you.

Bonus tip: don’t be afraid to say no. You do not owe anything to anyone, and if managing your own self care means turning others’ needs down now and then, well so be it.

Stay in touch

By now, many of us are well used to working from home, ordering groceries online and keeping our distance from others when we do venture out. But don’t let this pandemic strip you of what it means to be human, and to nurture human relationships. Stay in touch with friends and family. Set a reminder to do that video call. Pick up the phone. Send that email.

Whatever it takes to keep communication open with those you care about- especially if you live alone. We cannot stress this enough. While we have to keep our physical distance from others, we need to ensure that we keep emotional distance as short as possible.

Bonus tip: get a date into the schedule every week and make a note to check in with others who you know might appreciate it- set a reminder on your phone so you don’t forget.

Get out into nature

There really is no better remedy than a walk in the fresh air. If you can, get outside every day. Breathe some fresh air, feel the ground beneath your feet and change the view a little.

Just walking can do wonders for not only your physical health but for your emotional wellbeing too. We’ve talked before about the endorphin boost that exercise promotes, and we’ll keep on reminding you too. Self care is about the small things too. So if a walk with the dog makes you smile, makes you breathe a little easier each day then please do NOT skip it. Cherish it.

Bonus tip: keep the windows open as much as you can at home, to get plenty of that beautiful fresh air flowing through the house.
